Precision Joinery
Superior Hold
Family-Run Since 1982
Our premium oval brad nails feature a precisely engineered oval head shape that sits flush with the timber surface, providing exceptional holding power while minimising the risk of splitting wood. Designed for fine joinery, cabinet making, and decorative woodwork, these lost-head brads deliver a clean, professional finish that can be easily concealed with filler or putty for a truly seamless appearance.
Oval brads are specialist joinery nails featuring an oval-shaped head and a slender, slightly tapered shank. The oval head shape is specifically designed to be driven beneath the surface of the timber using a nail punch, creating what's known in the trade as a "lost head" — a fastening that is virtually invisible once filled and finished.
Unlike standard round wire nails, brads have a smaller cross-section that significantly reduces the risk of splitting delicate timber. The oval shape also means the nail can be oriented with the grain of the wood, further minimising splitting and ensuring the cleanest possible finish — essential for high-end joinery and cabinet work.
Available in lengths from 15mm up to 100mm and gauges from 18g (fine) to 12g (heavy), our oval brad range covers everything from delicate picture framing and moulding work through to structural joinery and hardwood flooring applications.
Oval brads are the professional's choice for fine woodworking. Here are the most common applications where these lost-head nails deliver exceptional results.
The primary application for oval brads. The lost-head design means fixings can be punched, filled, and finished completely invisible — essential for high-quality furniture and cabinetry where visible nail heads would ruin the appearance.
Perfect for fixing skirting, architraves, and door stops where a neat, concealed fixing is required. The oval shank reduces splitting on thin timber sections and moulded profiles.
Fine gauge brads are ideal for decorative mouldings, picture rails, and dado rails where a delicate fixing is needed without splitting the timber or leaving unsightly marks.
Heavier gauge oval brads are commonly used for secret-nailing hardwood floorboards through the tongue, allowing the nail to be concealed by the next board for a completely hidden installation.
Used in joinery workshops for assembling window frames, door frames, and sashes. The anti-split properties are critical when working close to joints and rebates where splitting would be catastrophic.
Any application where a neat, concealed, permanent fixing is required in timber. Ideal for staircases, bannisters, shelving, and bespoke carpentry where every detail matters.
Choosing the correct gauge and length is essential for a professional, secure finish. Here's what each size is best suited for.
